Gold medal!

We won the Head of the American on Saturday. We were bow number 5, passed 4, 3 and 2, and moved on #1. Since it was my only head race of the season (they are always on Sundays!) it was a super nice way to end 2007. Next year I race as a 50 year old, and does that sound different!
I'm always aware at this time of the year how I carefully fit together my two passions of ministry and rowing. Mostly it works out. In the fall, I end up coxing a lot and needing to cram my workouts into other times. We are working up to a long break, almost six weeks, and my friend Liz and I are busy planning our break workouts.
There is something so important about the rhythm of the seasons, kind of like the rhythm of the oars going in and out of the water. The steadiness helps me to be steady. Reminds me of the steadiness of daily prayer. All of these rhythms are the things that guide me day by day.
