Our coach Rick left this week to take a new position in Pittsburgh (yes, Pennsyvania). While we are all happy for him, we are sad to be losing such a fantastic coach and person.
Someone commented this week, amidst the tears and the laughing and the heartfelt farewells, that once in while, someone comes along and touches a community of people in a way that transcends an ordinary presence. Rick is that kind of a person and these past two years have been that sort of time. He entered our community (and our our team is a community, more than just about rowing) and in a gentle, firm, light and at the same time serious, way, pulled us together, helped us find our focus, and got us going in a lifegiving direction.
We knew he wouldn't stay forever, and we are grateful for the time he gave us. Now we will watch him from afar, and try to continue to standards he set for us. Thank you, Rick!
