Every time I scull (row with two oars rather than one), I feel as though I am going out for the very first time. Never mind that I've been doing this at least once (in a good year, twice) a year for about fifteen years, it always feels like the first time again.
This week I had the pleasure of rowing in a quad with Liz T., Kate and Aerial, three excellent scullers. What a treat that was!
All of the great spiritual teachers talk about approaching the divine with a beginner's mind, every time. I thought about that this week as I rowed up and down the channel with my three accomodating teammates. What would our lives be like if we could do this more often, approach the holy as a beginner, every time?
