Swing

This morning we had one of those sweet rows where things got better and better, and by the end we were just in perfect synch in every way and there was swing. I wasn't really expecting this, since it seemed like sort of a random lineup. But it all came together and was very, very satisfying. And, we kept up pretty well with the Head-of-the-Charles lineup, and that was a bonus!

Swing is what religious people call union with the divine. It is that briefest glimpse of God which cannot be earned, worked towards consciously or forced in any way. In rowing at least, it seems to be the result of paying attention, to oneself and to the others. In meditation, it occasionally comes in the silence.

It's one of the reasons I go down every morning at O'dark Hundred to the boathouse. In search of swing!

I love this post! Such moments can be experienced in many activities or settings, but it is my experience that usually they occur when a person is doing something they love or have great appreciation for.
