It is hard to say which of the daily offices is my favorite, since each carries and holds something particular. Vigils here is prayed at 6 am, still dark in winter. Voices are husky and groggy and low, and it is quite amazing to hear the first vocalization of the day be that of prayer.
I made it to my first Vigils this morning, and so glad I did. As we left the church, this was the sunrise, reflected in the school windows. Soon, children's voices will fill the rooms, greeting the new day as does the sunrise, as does vigils, full of hope and promise.
