teaching and taught

This weekend I spent quite a lot of time teaching, first for the Special Olympics athletes who come for a rowing clinic every summer, then for our "come everyone" Learn to Row workshop. I spent my first session co-teaching with our coxswain Mary. It was so very instructive to me to listen and watch the way she taught people to row. It struck me how important it is for teachers to be around other teachers on a regular basis, since one can get stuck in a routine and miss other wonderful ways of teaching.

It's a good reminder...to know that different learners need different teaching. And as a teammate said yesterday, if the teacher says the same thing over and over again and the student doesn't seem to be understanding, it is the teacher, not the student, who needs to change things up.

Spiritual learning is like that...the Teacher offers a million ways for us to learn and all we need to do is to notice that the gift is being offered...then we can partake in the learning. Good reminders for teacher and learner!
