Dark, Wet and Cold

The last couple of days have been, well, like being out on the bay before 6 am in January. Cold, Dark and Wet. The other morning it was so rough that we rowed out to San Quentin, then came right back in and finished our workout on the ergs. This morning, we could tell that the time is getting longer, and by the time we were doing our pieces we could actually see, and it did not start to rain until we hit the dock. Yea! Spring is coming!

These are the hardest days to get out of a warm bed and get in the cold car and drive to the boathouse. Even Molly Brown is less than enthusiastic. Sometimes, it's the coffee afterwards that spurs me on to get going. Sometimes it's sheer force of will. I was late to practice several times this week, and I noticed others dragging in too. The dark, cold days of winter. It teaches me to look for the light, anywhere.

Sometimes at church, I like to sit by the outside altar and look over the Lucas Valley. This picture was taken the other day just after the rain had stopped. The grass is turning emerald green, and the light is coming. Thank God!
